Army Virtual Desktop (AVD) on a Mac
Army Enterprise AVD works from a personal Mac. You connect with Microsoft's Windows App (the app formerly called Microsoft Remote Desktop) or from a browser, and sign in with your Army 365 account and CAC.
Before you start
- Your CAC must already work on the Mac. Set that up first with CAC reader for Mac.
- You must complete the one-time AVD onboarding (registration) described in the main AVD guide, using the link in the official Army instructions.
Option 1: Windows App
- Install Windows App from the Mac App Store (publisher: Microsoft).
- Add a workspace and enter the workspace URL given in the official Army AVD instructions (at last check:
rdweb.wvd.azure.us). - Sign in with your @army.mil address, choose your CAC certificate and enter your PIN.
- Pick your desktop and connect.
Option 2: Browser
- Use the web client address in the official instructions (at last check:
https://client.wvd.azure.us/arm/webclient/index.html). - Sign in with your @army.mil address and CAC.
Common problems
- No certificate or PIN prompt: that's a Mac CAC or DoD certificate issue. Fix it with the Mac CAC guide and the certificate guide.
- Signed in but no desktops: onboarding may not have finished. Wait and try again, then contact your unit's IT support.
- Older app: if you still have the old "Microsoft Remote Desktop" app, update to Windows App.
