SGLI, FSGLI and VGLI premium rates (official VA tables)
Quick answer: SGLI costs 5 cents per $1,000 of coverage plus $1 for TSGLI, so the $500,000 maximum is $26.00 a month out of base pay (VA). VGLI (after you get out) is priced by age: $500,000 costs $30.00 a month at 29 and younger, $50.00 at 35 to 39 and $95.00 at 45 to 49 (VA, rates as of July 1, 2025). FSGLI spouse coverage of $100,000 is $4.00 a month under age 35, and children are covered free (VA).
VGLI premium holiday: VA says eligible VGLI policyholders don't need to pay premiums from Nov. 1, 2026 through Jan. 31, 2027, and coverage continues. Check if you're eligible (VA FAQ).
