PCS to Yuma: MCAS Yuma and Yuma Proving Ground (BAH, check-in, housing, lodging, TRICARE)

↓ Jump to the calculator

Quick answer: Yuma is in the far southwest corner of Arizona, near the California and Mexico borders. It has two installations: Marine Corps Air Station Yuma in the city, and the Army's Yuma Proving Ground (YPG), about 23 miles northeast along U.S. 95. Both are in the same 2026 BAH area, so an E-5 gets $1,695/month with dependents ($1,338 without) at either one. At MCAS Yuma, check in at Station Headquarters (Bldg 980), then your unit. At YPG, report to the Military Personnel Division (Bldg 501). Lodging is Inns of the Corps (MCAS, 928-269-2262) or IHG Army Hotels (YPG, 928-388-6200). Neither clinic has an emergency room, and Arizona is in the TRICARE West Region. Sources: mcasyuma.marines.mil, home.army.mil/yuma, Military OneSource and DoD's 2026 BAH data.

Plan your move dates free: our free PCS and deployment planner builds a dated timeline from your report date and prefills Yuma's 2026 BAH when you enter 85365 or 85369. No email or account.

2026 BAH: Yuma vs. the other Arizona bases

Dependents
Yuma: MCAS Yuma and YPG (AZ016), E-5 with dependents: $1,695/mo. Davis-Monthan (Tucson): $1,905. Fort Huachuca: $1,719. Luke (Phoenix): $2,289.

2026 rates from DoD's BAH data file (DTMO), effective Jan. 1, 2026. YPG's ZIP 85365, MCAS Yuma's 85369 and 10 other Yuma County ZIP codes (85333, 85336, 85347, 85349, 85350, 85352, 85356, 85364, 85366, 85367) all map to the Yuma, AZ housing area (AZ016), so they show the same numbers. Open the BAH calculator with 85369 (MCAS Yuma) or 85365 (Yuma Proving Ground). Rates for 2027 usually come out in mid-December; see BAH 2027.

BAH is based on your pay grade, dependency status and the ZIP code of your permanent duty station, so living in Somerton, San Luis or the Foothills doesn't change it (DoD military pay, DTMO BAH lookup).

MCAS Yuma housing

Military OneSource says MCAS Yuma controls 821 homes: 693 on the air station and 128 apartment-style units at the 16th Street Family Housing complex, seven miles from base (source). To apply, you need PCS orders for at least six months and qualifying family members. Send DD Form 1746, the pet policy, your dependency application (NAVMC 10922 for Marines; Page 2 for Navy; DEERS form for other services) and your orders. Your control date is the day the housing office receives a complete package, so apply as soon as you have orders. The air station's estimated waits: E-1 to E-5 about 1–3 months for most home types (2-bedroom 3–4 months); E-6 to E-9 8–10 months for 3 bedrooms and 12–14 for 4; officers 12–14 months. Waits change constantly (source).

Renting in town? Military OneSource warns that rentals get scarce from October through April, when winter visitors arrive, and deposits often run first and last month's rent plus pet deposits. Ask for a military clause, and have base legal review the lease (source). The MCAS Yuma housing office also runs the rental referral program for Yuma Proving Ground families.

MCAS Yuma lodging

Inns of the Corps Yuma (Bldg 1088, two blocks inside the main gate) has 84 rooms, kitchenettes and some pet-friendly rooms: limit 2 pets, 75 lb max, kennel required. PCS and TAD guests can book up to a year ahead and have priority; others can book 90 days out. Check-in is 3 p.m. and check-out is 11 a.m. Call 928-269-2262 for rates (MCCS, Military OneSource).

YPG in-processing, housing and lodging

Hand-carry your PCS orders, personnel file, Soldier Talent Profile or ERB, enlistment contract or oath of office, your IPPS-A leave form, your most recent evaluation and any promotion orders. Your unit issues the in-processing checklist, and Army Community Service does a one-on-one orientation; ask for a sponsor if you weren't assigned one. Soldiers file the PCS travel claim through the smart voucher application, and DFAS pays about seven days after its review (source). Taking permissive leave to house hunt? Submit the leave request first; Military OneSource points to AR 600-8-10, paragraph 5-32(f).

On-post family housing has been privatized under Michaels Military Housing / Desert Oasis Communities since 2009. You apply through Desert Oasis and can check your place on the wait list in the RealPage portal (source). For lodging, Candlewood Suites has 92 all-suite rooms with kitchens. Pet fees apply (a $75 charge plus $10 a night; ask for the details), check-in is 4 p.m. and check-out is 11 a.m. (IHG). Because on-post Army lodging is privatized, you won't get a Statement of Non-Availability if it's full (IHG Army Hotels FAQ).

TRICARE and medical care

Arizona is in the TRICARE West Region. The contractor is TriWest Healthcare Alliance, 888-TRIWEST (874-9378) (tricare.mil, West Region). Military OneSource says families can choose either the YPG clinic or the MCAS Yuma clinic as their primary provider.

PCS money checklist

What we couldn't verify: MCAS Yuma check-in is described two ways. The air station's Welcome page says check in at Station Headquarters (Bldg 980) first, while Military OneSource says report directly to the unit on your orders. Squadron buildings and phone numbers also differ between those pages, so we don't list them; follow your orders and sponsor. Housing office hours differ (7 a.m.–3:30 p.m. on the main housing page; 7 a.m.–4 p.m. on the application page and Military OneSource). The air station's pages call the privatized partner both Lincoln Military Housing and Liberty Military Housing, and list several emails. The Branch Health Clinic page still tells people to use Health Net Federal Services and tricare-west.com for referrals (844-866-9378 and 844-866-9380), and Military OneSource's YPG page gives "TRICARE West" as 844-866-9378. tricare.mil lists TriWest (888-874-9378) as the West contractor, so use that. The clinic page also says ID is required for patients 10 and older in one spot and 14 and older in another. YPG Visitor Control Center hours differ across official pages (6 or 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 or 3:45 p.m., Mon–Thu). MCAS addresses appear with both ZIP 85365 and 85369; both are the same BAH area. The air station's Welcome page still lists lodging under its old name, Dos Rios Inn; MCCS now calls it Inns of the Corps Yuma (same number, 928-269-2262). IHG's Candlewood page describes the $75 pet charge both as a deposit per stay and as a non-refundable fee per pet, and gives the $10 nightly fee two different ways. Housing wait times are the air station's estimates and change often. We read the .mil pages through a fetch service because .mil sites block our server. Confirm phone numbers and hours with the installation.

FAQ

What is the 2026 BAH in Yuma?

Yuma is one military housing area (AZ016, YUMA, AZ) in DoD's 2026 BAH data. An E-5 gets $1,695 a month with dependents or $1,338 without, and an O-3 gets $2,049 with dependents or $1,785 without. BAH follows your permanent duty station's ZIP code, not where you rent.

Is BAH at Yuma Proving Ground the same as at MCAS Yuma?

Yes. Yuma Proving Ground's ZIP code (85365) and MCAS Yuma's (85369) both map to the same Yuma, AZ housing area (AZ016) in DoD's 2026 BAH data, along with 10 other Yuma County ZIP codes, so the rates are identical.

Where do I check in at MCAS Yuma?

The air station's Welcome page says to check in at Station Headquarters, Building 980, between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, then report to your unit. Personnel going to MAWTS-1, VMX-1, Headquarters Squadron or 3rd MAW units then go to IPAC in Building 328 with a reporting endorsement from their new command. After hours, on weekends and on holidays, report to the Station Officer of the Day in Building 980 (928-269-2252). Military OneSource says to report straight to the unit on your orders, so confirm with your sponsor.

Where do I check in at Yuma Proving Ground?

During duty hours, report to the Military Personnel Division in Building 501 on the Howard Cantonment Area, across from Army Community Service (Building 309). If you arrive after duty hours, on a weekend or on a holiday, check into the on-post IHG Army Hotel (or wherever you have a reservation) and confirm the procedure with your unit. Bring your PCS orders, personnel file, Soldier Talent Profile or ERB, latest evaluation and promotion orders.

What TRICARE region is Yuma in?

The TRICARE West Region. Arizona is in the West Region, and tricare.mil lists TriWest Healthcare Alliance as the contractor at 888-TRIWEST (874-9378). Families can enroll at either the Navy Branch Health Clinic on MCAS Yuma or the Yuma Proving Ground clinic. Neither clinic has an emergency room.

Where do I stay when I first arrive in Yuma?

At MCAS Yuma, it's Inns of the Corps Yuma (Building 1088, Shaw Avenue, 928-269-2262, open 24 hours). PCS and TAD travelers can book up to a year ahead and get priority. At Yuma Proving Ground, it's IHG Army Hotels: Candlewood Suites (Building 540) and La Casita (Building 538), both checking in at Building 540 (928-388-6200). Pet rooms are limited at both.
