Per diem rates 2027 (FY 2027): CONUS, OCONUS and how to look yours up
The FY 2027 GSA per diem rates apply to official travel from October 1, 2026 through September 30, 2027. The standard CONUS rate is $113 a night for lodging (up $3 from $110) and $68 a day for meals and incidental expenses (M&IE), which didn't change. About 295 higher-cost locations get their own, higher lodging rate.
| FY 2027 CONUS (GSA) | Rate |
|---|---|
| Standard lodging (most of the lower 48) | $113 / night |
| Standard M&IE | $68 / day |
| M&IE tiers for non-standard areas | $68 to $92 / day |
| Non-standard areas (own lodging rate) | 295 |
| Effective | Oct 1, 2026 – Sep 30, 2027 |

Who sets which rate
- CONUS (the lower 48 and DC): GSA sets these, updated each fiscal year on October 1. GSA per diem lookup.
- Non-foreign OCONUS (Alaska, Hawaii, Guam, Puerto Rico and other U.S. territories): the Defense Travel Management Office (DTMO) sets these and updates them monthly or as needed. They don't follow the October fiscal-year switch.
- Foreign countries: the State Department sets these and updates them at the beginning of each month. DTMO's lookup covers both foreign and non-foreign OCONUS rates.
Look up OCONUS and foreign rates in DTMO's Per Diem Rate Lookup. Because those change during the year, always use the rate in effect on your travel dates.

Trip estimate
This uses the Federal Travel Regulation pattern GSA describes: full M&IE on full days and 75% on the first and last travel days, plus lodging up to the maximum each night. It doesn't cover meals provided to you, taxes or other adjustments. Service members and DoD civilians on TDY are paid under the Joint Travel Regulations (JTR). Your DTS authorization and voucher are the official numbers.
Good to know
- The rate goes by where you work, not where you sleep. GSA bases reimbursement on the location of the work, unless no lodging is available there and your agency authorizes the rate where you stay.
- Installations that straddle a line: if a military installation sits in more than one per diem locality, the higher rate applies to the whole installation (GSA).
- Hotels above the rate: for federal civilians, the FTR lets agencies authorize actual expenses up to 300% of the per diem rate when rooms aren't available at the rate (FTR 27-01). Military travelers should ask their approving official about the JTR rules before booking.
- State hotel taxes: GSA's SmartPay team keeps the state tax-exemption forms for official travel.
